Since its inception in 1987, Mediland Hospital & Research Centre has been a cornerstone of healthcare in the Barak Valley. Established by Dr. Kushal Kumar Kar, then a freshly passed out MD Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialist, with just six beds in a modest Assam-type building, Mediland has grown into a trusted multi-specialty hospital, pioneering healthcare advancements for over three decades.

From pioneering the first ICU, NICU, Laparoscopic Surgery, Doppler Ultrasound, and the only fully equipped dedicated IVF Centre in the valley, Mediland Hospital continues to lead the way in advanced healthcare services. A Humble Beginning (1987)

Mediland started with a vision—a commitment to delivering quality medical care to the people of Silchar. From its early days, the hospital prioritized patient-centered care, building trust and reliability among the community.

Mediland has always been at the forefront of introducing new medical technologies to the region, achieving several firsts.

First UGI Endoscopy in Barak Valley

In 1991, Mediland performed the first Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) endoscopy in the region under the phenomenal leadership of Dr. N Das. This advanced diagnostic tool allowed for non-invasive detection and treatment of digestive tract disorders, elevating the standard of gastroenterological care.

First Colonoscopy in Barak Valley

The hospital continued its streak of innovations by introducing the first colonoscopy in 1992 by Dr N Das. This procedure empowered physicians to diagnose and manage colorectal conditions with precision, significantly benefiting patients in the valley.

A New Multispecialty Block

To meet the growing demand for healthcare services, Mediland expanded its infrastructure in 1994 by adding a four-story multispecialty block. This addition enabled the hospital to cater to a broader range of medical specialties and serve more patients.

Launch of the Infertility Clinic

In 1995, Mediland established its Infertility Clinic, offering hope to couples struggling to conceive. The clinic became a pioneer in reproductive care, eventually laying the groundwork for the valley’s only IVF center.

Pioneered Laparoscopic Surgery in Barak Valley

The hospital introduced surgical laparoscopy in 1997, offering patients minimally invasive surgical options. This development reduced recovery times and improved outcomes for procedures, marking a significant leap in surgical care.

Introduced the first NICU in Barak Valley and acquired the first Color Doppler Ultrasound machine.

Mediland enhanced its imaging capabilities with the region’s first Color Doppler Ultrasound machine. This technology offered advanced imaging of blood flow and vascular structures, elevating diagnostic precision.

Established the first Hemodialysis Unit in the valley.

In 2002, Mediland introduced Barak Valley’s first Dialysis Unit, addressing the critical needs of patients with kidney diseases. This service brought life-saving hemodialysis closer to home for countless individuals.

Opened the first state-of-the-art ICU in the valley

Mediland set a new benchmark in 2004 with the launch of the region’s first modern Critical Care Unit (CCU). Equipped with advanced ventilators and monitoring systems, this unit became the cornerstone for managing life-threatening conditions.

Launched Barak Valley’s only IVF Centre.

Mediland Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre, the only IVF center in Silchar, is a pioneer in advanced reproductive care, offering comprehensive fertility solutions with state-of-the-art technology. Since its inception in 2008, the center has consistently delivered excellent results in IVF, ICSI, and fertility preservation, providing hope to countless couples. With a patient-centered approach and a dedicated team of experts, Mediland combines clinical excellence with compassionate care, making it a trusted name in assisted reproduction in Barak Valley.

Added a 16-slice CT Scan for advanced imaging.

In 2016, Mediland introduced a 16-slice CT machine, enhancing its diagnostic imaging capabilities. This advanced equipment provided precise, high-resolution scans, enabling accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Renovated their existing laboratory into a state-of-the-art comprehensive pathology, microbiology, biochemistry and hormone lab.

Mediland continued to innovate in 2023 with the establishment of a state-of-the-art laboratory. Featuring advanced pathology, microbiology, biochemistry, and hormone testing, the lab ensures accurate and reliable results for better patient outcomes. Also started services like home blood collection.

A Legacy of Excellence

Established as part of the hospital's 2008 expansion, the West Wing stands as a testament to Mediland's commitment to advanced healthcare. With a capacity of 100 beds, this state-of-the-art facility has catered to countless patients, housing specialized departments like The NICU, Dedicated Paediatric HDU & Ward, The Critical Care Unit, The Dept of Laboratory Medicine, CT Scan unit, Urogynaecology OT, Orthopaedic OT and multiple wards and cabins. Over the years, the West Wing has witnessed groundbreaking procedures and remains a cornerstone of Mediland's mission to serve the Barak Valley with excellence and compassion
